Learners visit Krakow and Berlin

Recently thirty-one learners from Emrys ap Iwan had the opportunity to visit the Polish city of Krakow and the German capital Berlin.

The visit, organised by the History department, allowed learners from Years 10, 11 and 12 to visit sites such as the  iconic Wieliczka salt mines in Krakow as well as the Reichstag, the home of the German parliament in Berlin.

Ray Wood, Curriculum Leader of History stated that “For learners and staff alike the most memorable and moving part of the trip was the visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. We knew we stood where millions of people had been imprisoned and murdered during the Holocaust. This experience was very moving and had a greater impact than anything you could read in a book, watch on television or teach in a classroom.”
