Healthy eating - fruit tasting

Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan learners have taken part in an exotic fruit tasting session as part of a healthy eating programme.

Mrs Geraldine Chadwick, who organised the event with the help of Tesco in Abergele said:

“This was a chance for our learners to have a try at tasting some of the more exotic fruits available and learning about their origin. They also discussed the inclusion of fruit into a healthy diet.”

They learnt about the origins of each fruit, where it came from, the way it was grown, the carbon footprint effect linked to its transportation and its possible uses in their diet. The fruits included mango, kiwi, pineapple, pomegranate, honeydew melon, water melon, persimmon etc.  After tasting each fruit the learners chose their favourite and explained why they had chosen it. The most popular fruit amongst the learners was pineapple.
