Abergele schools united for art project

Pupils from primary schools in Abergele came together to design a stained glass window mural.

Children from Ysgol St Elfod, Ysgol Talhaiarn and Ysgol Glan Gele were involved in the project.  They paid a visit to Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan’s art department to carry out their creative paintwork.

The mural, to celebrate the opening of the new family centre on the Dinorben site of Emrys ap Iwan, incorporates images from an art competition held earlier in the year for the primary school children based on ‘what family means’.

Sarah Vaughan Edmunds, who was in charge of the art days for the stain glass window mural, said: “The children have worked collaboratively to create a fantastic design and piece of art for their local family centre.

“There was a real sense of pride about their work as they knew it was going to be placed in their local community.”

The project runs into early November. It also includes year nine pupils from Emrys ap Iwan who painted the wall in preparation for the installation.  The finished murals will be displayed outside the family centre.
