Our intent for the Performing Arts curriculum is to instil a passion for music and drama, whilst providing a flexible approach to prepare learners with the skills and knowledge to develop their understanding of dramatic performance, music performance, composition and listening and appraising. Learners will have extensive opportunities to engage with a fun, exciting curriculum that builds upon their practical skills, whilst embedding theoretical knowledge to support it. The units of work covered are designed to provide a range of different skills, expose learners to different styles, genres and practitioners of music and drama, which suitably prepare them to access Music at GCSE, BTEC and A Levels. The curriculum design allows learners at all levels of musicianship and thespian talent to develop, and continue to develop, their ability in the disciplines of performance, composition and listening and appraising. |

The Performing Arts department provides numerous opportunities for learners to develop their performance skills in a range of extracurricular opportunities. They are able to participate in school concerts, the carol concert, the winter show, drama clubs and the school productions and school plays. Furthermore, they also have the opportunity to participate in peripatetic instrument lessons, in order to develop their ability on their chosen instruments. This includes singing, guitar, drums, violin and a range of wood wind instruments. We also participate in a range of extracurricular trips for all learners, to further support them with their understanding of the performing arts industry. |
